F-SAE Vehicle on Display
August 3, 2010

Earlier this year the team displayed the 2009 Formula-SAE vehicle at the Clipsal 500, as experienced in previous years, the vehicle attracted a lot of positive attention. At present the vehicle is being displayed in the new Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Science building INNOVA21.

Visit to Centreline Patterns
September 27, 2009

On friday Ricky picked up more of his bodywork plugs - the side panels- which were kindly manufactured by Centreline Patterns.

Ricky and his team of helpers will be hard at work over the next month preping the plugs, making moulds and vacuum bagging the bodywork.

We would also like to thank Fibrerglass International who make it possible for us to manufacture the bodywork, diffuser, and other parts in carbon fibre composites.

Manufacturing Progress!
August 30, 2009

The manufacture of the 2009 Formula-SAE Vehicle is well under way. The Mechanical Engineering Workshop completes a majority of the manufacturing requirements of the vehicle, so a big thankyou goes out to the guys in the workshop. The work completed by the workshop so far is as follows:

The Spaceframe Chassis has been assembled and welded, with the final mountings to be attached shortly. The rear differential carriers have been CNC’ed and mounted to the Spaceframe, and the wishbones, ARB’s and other suspension components are near completion.

The tedious work of manufacturing the body work has begun. Centreline Patterns are kindly CNC’ing the foam plugs for the body work, which will save a large amount of time and effort. Ricky, the Design Engineer, is currently working hard to prepare the nose cone plug ready for fibre glassing.

The fuel tank, which is being kindly manufactured by Tafe SA, has been welded and is due for a pressure test shortly.

The carbon fibre impact attenuator passed the competition crash testing requirements on the second design iteration. The crash testing was kindly conducted by ASE.

Manufacturing and progress updates will be posted regularly so keep an eye out!
