The 2010 vechicle produced by The University of Adelaide Motorsport Team, designated as ADL-10, will build on nine years of successful design. An evolutionary design method building on feedback and performance from preceding seasons, is employed, refining and improving the previous generation of vehicle with a firm focus on increasing reliability, performance and ergonomics.
The rigours of Formula SAE require a vehicle which is lightweight, reliable, and capable of maintaining high levels of performance. ADL-10 when built will weigh an estimated 210kg, and will be subjected to accelerations of up to two g’s in straight line and cornering acceleration.
2010 introduces a new engine package with the team moving to the 599cc Yamaha YZF-R6 engine integrated with a new custom dry sump and transmission control system. The engine is capable of operating at engine speeds up to 13,000RPM and producing up to 80hp, powering ADL-10 to 100km/h in under four seconds.
Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis and various other computer based engineering methods are used in conjunction with real world testing to ensure the design goals of the vehicle are met.
